Well its that time of year again in college football. Rival Weekend. Its where all team fans get to talk a little extra smack to that one guy who decided to become a fan of the team of the team you despise. Living hear in South Carolina the rivalry between Clemson and Carolina couldn't be stronger. I hear about and see it everyday. Bumper stickers, hats shirts, and believe it or not tattoos too. This is our rivalry. You can argue which rivalry is the most competitive but really how can you prove that. Can you honestly say that you love your team more than I love my team? And on top of that can you say Notre Dame vs USC is a bigger rivalry than Clemson vs Carolina or one teams rivalry is bigger than another?
How do you prove that? I mean what statistical figure can you pull up to show this rivalry is stronger?
I honestly think that Duke and UNC basketball are the biggest rivalry in sports but then again I've been a fan of Duke since the early 90's and have watched the matchup over the years so I'm obviously biased.
When it comes to Clemson vs Carolina I have to sit back and laugh (and I hope I get fans of both to comment on this blog). I am not a fan of either and when someone asks me do you like Clemson or Carolina I have to answer carefully. Its like a right of passage or something. If I like the same team they like, then its like they think I'm cool in there book but if I like the other, well then you might as well have spit in their milkshake.
Personally I don't like either. I have friends who have gone to both schools and are die hard fans but I cannot root for a team that consistently lets their fans down each and every year. Both teams can never seem to have a successful year. And I mean success by winning a national championship or at least finishing the year in the top ten (I'm sorry you can't consider a year successful when make it to a bowl game). I have pulled for both teams when I watched them play and have never felt like I should owe allegiance to a team who can't seem to pull off big wins.
Ok I'll admit that I lean towards Carolina a little more than Clemson. Only because they have been more of an underdog I guess. I don't favor any one particular member, or coach and no my dad doesn't like them better either. When it comes to Carolina or Clemson, I'll be quietly pulling for the Garnett and Black.
