DirectTV NFL Sunday Ticket and the Carolina Panthers
The Carolina Panthers played a strange season overall last year, finishing with a final score of 7-9. They were far from the worst team in 2006 but still missed the playoffs and suffered some humiliating defeats. Coach John Fox is back in action though there have still been many on-field changes.
The team has already lost some major talent including cornerback Patrick Dendy, defensive tackle Kris Jenkins and linebacker Dan Morgan, along with eight other known players. However, the team managed to keep some of its most important players this season, including offensive tackle Travelle Wharton and defensive tackle Damione Lewis. As far as acquisitions go, management made it clear that the team was looking for another playmaker that could help out Steve Smith in the wide receiver position. The positions of tight end and running back were also left unanswered, at least until the 2008 NFL Draft.
Running back Jonathan Stewart was chosen along with offensive tackle Jeff Otah, cornerback Charles Godfrey, linebacker Dan Connor and tight end Gary Barnidge. Rounding out the list were Nick Hayden for defensive tackle, Hilee Taylor for linebacker, Geoff Schwartz as offensive lineman, and Mackenzy Bernadeau playing as an offensive guard. Some experts questioned whether the top picks were truly 1st round draft material, particularly Jonathan Stewart, who seemed to fit in with the team’s habit of choosing a running back for a 1st round pick. Nevertheless, the team did not fill all of its holes, as it is still lacking in the positions of quarterback and pass rusher.
